AWN 600 Wastewater neutralisation in the laboratory

Wastewater neutralisation AWN600

The optimal wastewater neutralisation for our exhaust air scrubbers MAALS/MAASS

The wastewater neutralisation type AWN can be integrated into the fume cupboard base as an additional component. It is used to neutralise acidic and/or alkaline wastewater from the fume cupboard or the laboratory area.

How the wastewater neutralisation works: The AWN-type neutralisation system operates on a batch principle. With a maximum capacity of 600 l/h, it is designed for use in laboratory environments. The wastewater is collected in the integrated collection tank and, once the required fill level is reached, is transferred to the neutralisation tank. Subsequently, under continuous pH monitoring and circulation, alkali or acid is periodically dosed in accordance with the set target pH value.

Even during the neutralisation process, the collection tank of the wastewater neutralisation system can be refilled, thereby virtually eliminating waiting times during ongoing laboratory operations. Once the set final pH value has been reached, the neutralised medium is pumped into the waste water system via a 3-way motorised ball valve.

Programmable logic controller

All functions of the wastewater neutralisation system are controlled and monitored using the programmable logic controller (Siemens). The following signals can be output via externally connected indicator lights:

  • Operational monitoring
  • Detailed fault messages
  • Level monitoring of the integrated
  • Alkali/acid dosing tanks

The equipment variants:

The AWN type wastewater neutralisation system is available in 4 different variants:

  • fully or semi-automatic
  • 1- or 2-stage neutralisation

In the semi-automatic variant, the individual programme steps must be manually acknowledged and started. The 3-way ball valve is operated manually (neutralisation – pumping out).

The results:

With the aid of the AWN-type wastewater neutralisation system, all acidic/alkaline laboratory wastewater is discharged into the sewage system with a pH value that complies with the provisions of Section 19 of the German Water Act (WHG).
